The curtain on 2018 is about to come down.  A New Year is about to dawn.  2018 is fading fast like embers of a fire that once burned brightly.  As you reflect on this past year, you remember highlights and those items that did not work out as planned.  Upon reflection the year was one of gains and losses, highs and lows, and the bright and dull.  There is no way we can go back in time and change actions and decisions.  We can only start from today.  Today we are at the threshold of not just a new day but a new year.
Remember this promise from the Bible:  “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Is. 40:31
As we approach the New Year, let us prepare by waiting on the Lord.  Most of us dislike waiting.  You can see waiting as dull and tedious.  Most of us view waiting as a passive activity.  Yet the word waiting is an action word.  Waiting means to be actively pursuing the Lord and His will for your life.  Waiting implies a continuation of positive movement in a Godward direction.  It is not the same as stopping or quitting or quiet resignation.  Waiting in the Bible sense is holding on to God’s unseen Hand as He leads us through the next day, and into the future trusting Him all the way.
A good reminder as we approach the new year is to remember: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lam. 3:22-23
This new year will not be a repeat of last year.  It will be new and fresh.   Things that transpired in 2018 may have discouraged you.  Give it to the Lord.  As you turn the page over on this past year, dedicate the new year to the Lord who meets us right where we are and promises His steadfast love to each and every one of us.

Happy New Year.
