There is a beautiful statement at the beginning of Jude in the New Testament:

This letter is from Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James.

I am writing to all who have been called by God the Father, who loves you and keeps you safe in the care of Jesus Christ

Oftentimes we tend to believe the things that people say about us and it does have an impact on our lives. Rather than allowing people to name who we are and decide whether we have any value, we should hear what God says about His people! There are three statements that Jude makes in the first verse of Jude:

1 “all who have been called by God.” If you are following God you have been called by Him. It is not just missionaries and pastors who have been called by God, all of us have heard Him call our names. Stop listening to what others call you and start listening to the God who calls you by name. God loves you and calls each of us to be His child. The greatest calling is not what others say, but the fact that God knows us and call us!

2 “who loves you.” There are a lot of great ideas you have heard in your lifetime. We love many people, our family and friends are at the top of the list. There is a temptation to stop focusing on those who love and believe in us and allow negative remarks to wound us so deeply that it nearly ruins our lives. The foundation for your life should be that God is love, and this great God of the universe loves you! He knows us best and loves us most. We don’t have to earn His love and we do not deserve it, He loves us and that is settled. You cannot make Him love you more! Regardless of the rejection and pain you have experienced do not ever forget that God loves you!

3 “keeps you safe.” Everyone is concerned about safety. Though there is much danger in the world, our God keeps us safe. Safe for eternity. Regardless of what happens, I am safe in His Hands forever. Are you discouraged? disillusioned? disappointed? Bring them all to the safety of your Heavenly Father.

There is something else that I see in this verse: “we are kept safe in the care of Jesus Christ.” Our safety comes from the fact that we are in the care of our Savior. Jesus cares for you, and about you. The only true safe place in this world is in the care of Jesus. Jesus cares that is the message of His life, death and Resurrection. He knows what we are going through, and He understands the pain of rejection. The pain of mistreatment and violence. You can trust Him with and for everything.

Whenever someone begin to describe who you are, tell them that you are called, loved and kept in the care of Jesus. No one ever cared for you like Jesus! You are safe with Him.

Why don’t you mediate on this verse everyday for the next couple of weeks. I think it will help your attitude and thinking. God bless you! You are loved by God!
